Children & Youth

Infants & Toddlers

We love to have children at St. Andrew's worship services. Young children--and even infants--can absorb a great deal from worship. At the entrance of our church, you will discover a welcoming family-friendly space with coloring materials, board books, and a comfy carpet for kids.

Snuggery: In addition to our family-friendly area, we also have an adjacent soundproof room with a rocking chair, toys, books, soft carpeting, and a changing table.  Our Snuggery includes a speaker so your family can continue to hear the service.

Nursery Care: Childcare (toddler - age 3) is provided during the 9:30 AM service in the Parish Hall downstairs. Please complete a Nursery Registration Form the first time you come.  Then, simply sign your child in and out each week.

Children's Formation

Children's Sunday School uses the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum and offers instruction for 3-10 year olds. It meets at 9am on the 2nd, 4th, and occasional 5th Sundays of each month in the Parish Hall.

See more information about our program below!

Teens & Tweens

Teens and tweens have the opportunity to participate in Acolyting, scripture study, Confirmation discernment, field trips to learn more about Christianity and other faiths, service projects, and social events.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The children's education program uses the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum, which gives children the tools and opportunities to explore mysteries of faith, grow engaged in the liturgy, and foster love and relationship with Jesus as their Good Shepherd. The curriculum is based on Montessori principles of education - meaning it uses hands-on approaches to learning and the use of specially designed learning materials beautifully and precisely crafted to each teach a single skill or concept. In Montessori classroom, the materials follow logical, developmentally appropriate progressions that allows the child to develop an abstract understanding of a concept.

Each classroom is called an atrium. The atrium is a place of prayer, in which work and study spontaneously become meditation, contemplation, and prayer. The atrium is a place in which the only Teacher is Christ; both children and adults place themselves in a listening stance before his Word and seek to penetrate the mystery of the liturgical celebration.

The atrium for the younger children is christo-centric, focusing on the person of Jesus Christ. The children explore narratives around his birth and life, his teachings, his historical reality, and his role in the life of the church. The atrium also focuses on outfitting the children for engagement in the liturgy and church life by exploring sacraments, the liturgical calendar, nomenclature, and the Holy Bible all in developmentally appropriate ways.

Level 1 Atrium

The level 1 atrium is designed for children aged 3-6. The curriculum centers around the concept of Jesus as the Good Shepherd. We focus on the joy and wonder surrounding God and faith. We emphasize Jesus, and his light being a gift for the world and a gift for each child. Some highlights of the topics covered include:

Level 2 Atrium

The level 2 atrium is designed for children aged 6-10. The curriculum centers around the concept of Jesus as the True Vine. The curriculum is still very Christ centric while the children explore the concepts of christian life and practice. We contemplate christian morality, the Holy Bible (now that the children can read), and how God’s story has unfolded on a cosmological timescale. We return to and dig deeper into all the work covered in the level 1 atrium, as well as introduce some of the following topics:
