Special Vestry Meeting
Peabody Room
Present: Al Colburn, Dick Dabrowski, Linda Kaferle,
Absent: Sue Hildreth, Don Ulsch
The purpose of this
special meeting was to discuss a request from a parishioner that the Vestry
approve the use of parish funds for a “purse” for Fr. Alan to be given to him
on November 1st. The
parishioner was also willing to supplement the money from the parish funds by
requesting donations from parishioners.
A motion was
unanimously approved that
Linda Kaferle pointed
out that using parish funds was actually frowned upon by Fr. Alan when the
issue came up at Michael Smith’s departure. Instead the Vestry was asked by Fr. Alan to
contribute towards a “purse” that would then be open to parishioners to
contribute to. Linda felt that rather
than money, Fr. Alan should be given a gift that would remind him of St.
Andrew’s. She proposed that the Vestry
members contribute towards a gift for Fr. Alan from the Vestry and that a
letter be sent to parishioners outlining three ways to honor Fr. Alan’s service
to St. Andrew’s:
1.
Attend Fr.
Alan’s final service on November 1st
at St. Andrew’s and the reception following
2.
Contribute
to the Alan MacKillop Music Fund established by Dick Dabrowski and Carolyn
Smith with Alan’s approval
3.
Contribute
to a “purse” for Fr. Alan by writing a check to St. Andrew’s (making it
tax-deductible) – one check will then be presented to him at the reception
After some
discussion, a motion was made and unanimously approved that the Vestry members
would contribute toward a Waterford decanter to be presented to Fr. Alan at his
reception, and that a letter would be sent (hopefully with the collaboration of
the parishioner who made the original request (see above) to all parishioners
outlining the three ways stated above to honor Fr. Alan.
Other things
discussed were:
Asking the Sunday
School children to write letters and/or draw pictures that could be presented
to Fr. Alan
Erica Scattergood
would bring her Casio keyboard to the Nov. 1st luncheon and ask Kyle
to play some selections for Fr. Alan
Included in the
letter to the parish requesting donations (see above) would be an invitation
written by Erica S. to the special luncheon in honor of Fr. Alan with a request
for an RSVP so she would know how many people to plan for.
Requests would be
made for a parishioner to take photos during the luncheon as well as a
parishioner to act as the Master of Ceremonies.
Respectfully
submitted,
Linda Kaferle
