Expectations of a Vestry Member 2009
At St. Andrew's Church, a Vestry member is expected to:
- Provide leadership and direction for the church in collaboration with other lay leaders and the clergy.
- Be a regular attendee at worship.
- Pray daily for the church and its ministry.
- Support and encourage the ministry of the Rector and staff.
- Pledge, with the expectation of fulfillment.
- Attend monthly vestry meetings (currently held the 3rd Tuesday of the month beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending at 9:00 p.m.).
- Attend three leadership meetings a year (includes a day-long Saturday retreat with a 2-hour Friday night session the night before).
- Serve as liaison to one of the parish commissions, if not already a chairperson.
- Attend monthly or bi-monthly commission meetings (schedule set by chairperson).
- Consider taking a turn as money counter with another vestry person about once a month (except the Treasurer).
- Participate in Safe Church Training (one Saturday 9:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. at a diocesan-assigned church).
- Participate in special events and gatherings of the Parish.
- Take steps, if not already confirmed or received in the Episcopal Church, to become so.
- Maintain responsible communication (which excludes hearsay and gossip) with the congregation, the Vestry, the Rector, the staff and the community.
- Abide by the Vestry Covenant.
