Baptism of Christ
Baptism of Christ, a fresco on plaster executed circa 1305 by the Italian painter Giotto de Bondone (c. 1267-1337) for the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy, where it can still be seen.
Giotto de Bondone is generally considered the first in a line of great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance. The Scrovegni Chapel, dedicated to St. Mary of the Charity, frescoed between 1303 and 1305 by Giotto, upon the commission of Enrico degli Scrovegni, is one of the most important masterpieces of Western art. The frescoes, which narrate events in the lives of the Virgin Mary and Christ, cover the entire walls.
