Would you like to get to know and have fun with more people at St. Andrew's?
Foyer Groups (from the French word "foier" meaning "hearth" or "home") are gatherings of roughly 8 people who share dinner 4 times a year. The purpose is to broaden and deepen the social connections of newer members of the parish, and help “old-timers” get to know new folks.
Each couple will host a dinner at their home once (or you can book the Peabody Room or the Parish Hall) – so it is expected there will be a total of 4 dinners between October and April. The hosts provide the main dish while each of the others bring an appetizer, a side dish, or dessert. The first meeting date will be proposed by the “kick-off pair” and the rest of the dinner dates will be set at the first dinner. If a group cannot agree to a date that works for them, we will re-pair them with another group.
There is no formal agenda, nor any assignment; we request only that each group say grace before meals. Newcomers are invited and encouraged to join a group at any time.
Groups will be assigned in mid-September, with the first dinner taking place in mid- to late-October. Parishioners will sign up as couples or individuals, (if you’re single, we’ll pair you up) and will be assigned at random to a group. The purpose of Foyer Groups is not to have groups of friends sign up together, but to “mix it up.”
Please note there is no need to be concerned that your house is not grand enough to host, nor your culinary skills gourmet enough to share. The focus is on friendship and fellowship!
While most groups will represent a cross-section of the church, to accommodate families with young children, you may opt to be paired with other young families so that children may be included in the gatherings.
Please note during sign-up whether you’d like to be joined with a Family Foyer Group (children included) or an Adult Foyer Group (grown-ups only at gatherings).
It’s a fun way to get to know one another better, particularly the newer members of our wonderful community. Questions? Email Patricia White at Obscurepmayes
