St. Andrew's Calendar

Need a ride to Sunday services or some other St. Andrew's event?
Bad weather making you nervous? Car in the shop? Given up driving? No problem!
We can help with weekly or one-time transportation. Membership Commission member Dick Dabrowski is currently coordinating St. Andrew's Share-A-Ride Program. Please speak with him at coffee hour after the 10:00 a.m. service on Sundays or telephone him at his home (978-448-3264). He will match you up with a St. Andrew's volunteer driver in your neighborhood.

NOTE: Most (but not all) of the images on this Calendar are links--go ahead and try them.

Good Friday
Today, we commemorate our Lord Jesus Christ's long journey to Calvary, where He was crucified and died. The stark services today recall the moment of our Lord's crucifixion and death, which He freely chose for our salvation. Full of silence and meditation, many will find these services are essential to a full understanding of the Easter mystery.

The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb , an oil and tempera painting on limewood created in 1521 by German artist Hans Holbein the Younger (c. 1497 - 1543). Holbein shows the dead Son of God after he has suffered the fate of an ordinary human. Now in the collection of the Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland.

Holy Saturday
Today, the Altar of Repose is stripped of its linen. Holy Saturday lasts until dusk, after which the Easter Vigil is celebrated, marking the official start of the Easter season. In this service, the original celebration of the Resurrection, we gather in darkness to kindle the new flame, a symbol of newness in Christ, from which the Paschal Candle is lit and processed into the sanctuary. There, we recall Cod's saving acts toward humanity from Creation to the Cross. Following this time of reading and psalms, the Easter Announcement is joyfully proclaimed, and the mood turns from darkness to light as we celebrate with high solemnity the first Eucharist of Easter.
